Jon woke up, still thinking about his careless wish. Maybe something interesting would happen today. He looked around the room. Nothing seemed out of place. He got out of bed and went downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning, Jon," his mom said, briefly looking up from reading a book.
Jon stared at her. Above her head were words, numbers, and a green bar. Janet Gibson, Mother, Lvl. 6, HP 50/50. It reminded Jon about a video game character from an rpg. Jon blinked a few times to make sure he wasn't seeing things. He wasn't.
"Be right back," Jon told his mom as he rushed to the bathroom. In the mirror, he saw the same type of thing above his head. Jon Gibson, Student, Lvl. 4, HP 40/40.
Suddenly, he heard knocking at the door. "Jon!" his little sister Zoe yelled. "You know I've got dibs on the bathroom this time in the morning."
"Sorry, coming out." Jon stepped outside. Above Zoe's head was the same thing. Zoe Gibson, Student, Lvl. 3, HP 35/35. "Um," Jon asked Zoe, "is there anything above my head? Like my name or numbers?"
She gave him an odd look. "What are you talking about? No, of course not." She stepped into the bathroom and closed the door.
"So I'm the only one who can see it," Jon muttered to himself. "I wonder if there's anything else to it."
