When Jon woke up in the morning, his home was in flames. He quickly ran outside, where he saw that the whole suburb was burning down. Ugly green men ran around in small packs, slaughtering hapless residents. Every time Jon saw one of those groups, he ran away in the opposite direction. After about an hour of running and hiding, he made it to where a park used to be. A large temple was standing in its place. Steve Farber and Mike Matthews, a couple of members of the high school football team, were putting up a valiant defense, but were surrounded by the green men. Mike killed three of them before being his throat torn open. Steve finished off the other four, but received a stab wound for his troubles, straight through the stomach. Jon watched as he slumped down and died.
A man walked out of the temple. It was Father Roberts, the local Catholic priest. Roberts looked down at the corpses at the foot of the entrance-way, then shifted his gaze straight at Jon's hiding place behind a tree. "Boy, come here."
Jon did as he was told, approaching Roberts. "Father... what happened here?"
"Argonak's goblin hordes attacked. Ever since he managed to unify the tribes of Dark Ones, they've managed to encroach on human territory. This attack was targeted. Argonak was most likely trying to kill our priestess. As far as I can tell, all the other young men in this town have been killed. You know what you have to do."
Jon had no idea what he had to do, but he was getting a better idea of what was going on. The whole idea of his home burning down, the temple, the goblin attacks... this was all reminiscent of themes that popped up all the time in the video games he played. It looked like he was a hero of some sort, but he had no idea what kind of quest he had. "Sorry, father, I don't."
Roberts narrowed his eyes, and snorted. "Onda's Light, child, do they teach you nothing these days? It's been prophesied that a priestess of the light and her guardian would pray at the altars of fire, water, wind, and earth before the dark king's hordes would fall. This is the temple of light, and we only have one priestess young and fit enough to fulfill this role. Steven Studworth was meant a talented young warrior, groomed to be the guardian, but you must take his place. You must meet Karyn."
A traveling priestess visiting a bunch of elemental altars. Yet another trope that commonly appeared. Final Fantasy X, Tales of Symphonia... this sort of thing happened all the time in his video games. The priestess usually ended up being the main love interest. Could this be Jon's big break with Karyn?
He broke away from his thoughts as the temple doors opened once again. Karyn was standing there in a rather revealing outfit, looking more beautiful than ever. Every flaw had been removed, and every feature amplified so she looked more like a caricature than a real woman. Her already large breasts had become absolutely enormous (but still perfectly firm), her stomach didn't have an ounce of fat, and her slim waistline expanded into generous hips. She gifted Jon with a gaze and a smile, and began walking down the stairs... to promptly trip over herself and fall the rest of the way.
The priestesses were usually clumsy, too.
