“I want to take the rapids,” Marina said. “We should be able to avoid his forces with ease and get behind them so we can strike Dreze directly.”

“The rapids are very dangerous, are you sure?” Timothy asked.

“I can use a magical boat I have crafted to get us through safely so even the most dangerous rapids are no real hazard.”

“Do you know about any hostile creatures in the area, because I haven’t heard of anyone traveling that path and if people don’t use it there is usually a very good reason.”

Marina liked working with Timothy but sometimes his careful planning could become very frustrating because he liked to plan everything out to the tiniest detail. It was usually fine but when you were dealing with an approaching army it was important to get things done when an opportunity presented itself. There wasn’t much time before the foul wizard Dreze made his way through the mountain and there would be little chance to get around him and a direct confrontation with his army would result in a great loss of life that she could do little to prevent.

“I want to do this and we don’t have much time when Dreze gets to this side of the mountains he will be able to take control of the river and how do propose to get behind his army to him then?” Marina questioned angrily.

“These are fair questions I am asking, an hour spent discussing things can prevent hours or days of delay or dangers but I will go with you and trust your judgment. If you say we need to go, we go.”

He followed her to the river where she pulled out a small wooden boat and placed it in the river. Timothy resisted the urge to comment about fitting because she had already let him know that it was magical and soon it expanded to the point that it could fit three or four people. He started to load it interested to see how it work. It didn’t appear that the boat actually rested on the water but hovered a few inches above which might allow it to ride over the dangerous rocks in the rapids.

“How long can it stay afloat like that?” Timothy said as he got aboard the boat to start the trip.

“Twelve hours and then I have to recharge it for at least an hour,” Marina answered. “I have several energy stones to use so I don’t have to use my own power.”

“Good, then what are we waiting for.”

The ride was less than pleasant as the vessel jostled and shook over the rapids but it made no signs that it was going to over turn. The gigantic mountains stood over them on either side of the river shrouding them in darkness. Timothy would be a lot happier when he was on the other side of these mountains because of how foreboding they felt.

He had always hated things that were unfamiliar to him so he had dedicated his life to knowledge. He had seen the destruction the ancient evils that lurked in the world could do so he had searched out the knowledge to stop them and put them where they could never hurt anyone again. The sound of singing came to his ears and he wondered who could be out there with such a beautiful melody.
