The first thing that Jonna noticed as she stepped out of the house was that there was a car parked in the driveway. Her first thought was that her mom was home, but then she realized that the car was empty and also not her mom’s. It was a small sedan, and predictably at this point, it was pink.
Having a brainwave, Jonna opened up her purse and looked inside. She smiled when she spotted a pair of car keys sitting on top of a bunch of other stuff. Fishing them out, she excitedly pressed the button to unlock the car which confirmed that it was indeed hers. While Jon had passed his driving test, they only had the one car, so Jon was only allowed to use it on occasions.
Feeling incredibly lucky to have her own car, Jonna opened the driver’s side door and got in, being careful not to ruin her dress. She put the purse down on the passenger seat before starting the car. While it wasn’t as powerful as a Mustang, Jonna was still excited to hear her own car roar into life, a sound quickly drowned out as the radio started and a lively pop song began booming out of the speakers.
Trying to remember her lessons, Jonna put the car into reverse and carefully backed out of the driveway.
As it had been a while since she had last driven, Jonna drove slowly and carefully. She was finding it a little tricky to drive in her heels—she didn’t want her foot to slip and cause the car to suddenly speed off and hit something—but eventually she made it to the mall and began searching the parking lot for a space. Although it was a Monday, the mall was surprisingly busy and it took Jonna a while to find a place to park. Eventually she did, and after pulling into the spot, she grabbed her purse and climbed out.
Jonna joined the crowds heading into the mall, noting that they were all women, and wondered how on Earth she was going to find Karyn.
