Jon's cell phone picked that moment to ring.
"Hello? Uhm, yes, we're safe. No one really looks this way and I do trust everyone I'm with. Why?"
Suddenly a small rift, from which Lucas could be seen from the chest up, appeared. Lucas calmly hung up her cell phone, then turned to the surprised crowd.
"Hey, folks! How goes?"
"What the..." - Said Karyn.
"Sorry, but this kind of warning here can't really be given over the phone so people won't intercept it, so I figured I'd be direct..." - Said Lucas. She then looked at Jon and Brittany - "Hey, cool, you guys going to a Ren fair? I've always wanted to visit one of those! Where is it?"
"Lady Jon, who is this person???" - Asked Brittany.
The incomplete amount of information Lucas had regarding the context kept allowing her to reach conclusions that were neat, simple, clear and wrong.
"Cool, she even talks the part!" - Said the angel.
"Ugh... Lucas, neither Brittany nor myself are going to any renaissance fair..." - Said Jon, sighing as she was forced to take the lead in explaining the situation before it got too idiotic - "Listen, everyone, this is Lucas, keeper of the element of Water. Brittany, Lucas is a bit brash, but we can trust her..."
"You are the keeper of the Element of Water?" - Asked Brittany in awe, her annoyance and surprise all but forgotten - "You are the one chosen to wield the Excalibur?"
"Uh..." - Said Lucas - "Sorta? I really don't feel comfortable being a chosen one... Not to sound snippy, but who are you anyways?"
"Oh! Where are my manners." - Said Brittany, formally even for her standards - "I am Brittany, sent by the last Merlin of the last age of magic to aid Lady Jon in this one... It is an honor to meet the keeper of Excalibur, Lady Lucas..."
"Er, even if I hadn't been a guy two months ago, I'm really not a lady. I'm not prim, I'm not proper, I'm not sane..." - Said Lucas.
"No argument there..." - Quipped Tim.
"You are still the keeper of Excalibur." - Said Brittany - "You surely are worthy of such honor..."
"Er, look, I'm no King Arthur. I'm just a Brazilian translator that got lucky, okay? I'm not some sort of a hero..." - Said Lucas
"Lucas..." - Said Jon, uneasily - "You had something to say?"
"Oh, right. Uhm, none of you guys live near Fourteenth Street, right?" - Said Lucas.
"Not really... That's one of the entrances to the city, at other side of the town from this school." - Said Karyn - "Why?"
"Oh, well, there might be a bit of a mecha fight there soonish..." - Said Lucas - "So, besides getting some people to do crowd control, I'm sorta making sure."
"Wait, what???" - Asked Haru.
"Well, a small mecha, to be sure, like, say, some eight meters tall or so?" - Said Lucas - "Basically, I and some other people are prepared for a 'shit hits the fan' scenario because this moron of a guy decided he wanted a Son 2.0 or something. We'll make sure nothing bad happens, but I wanted to make extra sure in your case."
"You will fight a type of giant to protect people." - Said Brittany - "And you claim you are no hero?"
"You knew a Merlin, Brit. I'm no Merlin. You likely knew King Arthur too. I'm not fit to run a condo, let alone a country. Just... Look, it's complicated." - Said Lucas.
"You did intervene in politics a bit." - Said Haru, softly.
"Not to rule, but to make sure people get to rule themselves. At any rate, I'm no king. Offer me a crown and I'll melt it, sell it and build an RPG room..." - Said Lucas.
"King Arthur was but a man, Lady Lucas." - Said Brittany - "But rest assured: If you were deemed worthy of Excalibur, you are likely to do, and even to already have done, quite a lot of good with it."
"You did hear me saying you didn't need to call me Lady, right?" - Said Lucas, grumbling.
"I did, Lady Lucas. But you are deserving of that treatment." - Said Brittany.
"You don't even know me, Brit... Oy. Listen, just keep away from Fourteenth Street till I say it's clear, okay? Call me if you need me, you got my number."
With that, Lucas closed the rift.
"So..." - Said Tim, voicing everyone's thoughts - "Will we keep away from this fight?"
