"So, Robert. By what Lucas said about God, it seems that there is some sort of deity..." - Said Lois.

Robert nodded.

"Much though I'd love to claim otherwise, though, all that can be really gleaned is that there is some sort of deity, or at least something that answers prayers, and that said deity or thing did so..." - She smiled lightly - "Lucas's clumsy-but-nice attempts to claim it as a sort of victory for my religion nonwithstanding, those events do nothing to 'prove' that Christianity is correct. Or that any other religion is correct."

Lois nodded. "So, what of Lucas's worshipping of... Well, of Selene, really, by another name?"

Robert looked a bit downcast for a moment.

"I hope it doesn't offend you?" - Said Lois.

Robert shook her head. "Not at all. I am happy for her, really. By what she told me, Miss Andrews actively rebuffed her attempts to offer service, which really seems to work with Lucas's nature. I wish her all the best, I really do. It's just that - from her very words - Lucas is the kind of person that got away from the church - in her case, likely the Catholic Church - due to the kind of preacher I once was. Or at least partly so. Lucas's search for a more down-to-earth figure was motivated by people like me... Or like... old me."

"So? You changed. Lucas found what she sought. And Lucas being driven away from her church, whatever it was, doesn't have only fundamentalist preachers as the cause. I know my customers. One of the first things Lucas told me was that she worked freelance due to disliking large groups." - Said Lois.

"Social anxiety?" - Said Robert.

"No. Not a phobia. She doesn't like large structures and too rigid hierarchies. By what she told us about her story with Selene, she clearly doesn't even mind 'serving' a deity as much as she seems to think, but, serving or not, she wants that deity to be close and equal."

Robert pondered for a second. By definition, the Christian God was "close", being omnipresent. "Equal", however, was as far away from what He was as possible. And Lucas knew of a "higher power" - at least inasmuch as she knew said higher power existed and actually informed Selene about her. So Selene was like a Catholic saint in some regards. Yet she had power and called herself a goddess. But she was human. Now, would it be idolatry if the goddess in question was real and - sort of - a goddess? And if so...

At this point, Robert realized that trying to apply Christian theology - or indeed any theology at all - to this situation would likely result in her having to replace her priestly robes with a straitjacket.

"Well, at any rate, Lucas is my friend, and she seems happy with her new... - Robert paused. Religion? Beliefs? Worship? Hobby? Thing? "...with her new goddess."

Lois smiled. "Yes, and my earlier point remains: You changed. I'd guess God already forgave you, whatever God is. And I hope you forgive yourself. What you did today for Lucas is proof that you can do a lot of good in the world. You literally saved two souls from Hell today, Robert."

Robert smiled and blushed.

"A done deal, conditions assured, with a good amount of cash on the side. And we even got some new contacts. That was easy." - Said Lucas, smiling, as she left the scientist's house with Cass - "So, let's see. Lunch, dimensional travelling, some tea with a goddess, obtaining omnipotence on plots of land on the Moon, restricted to them, but still quite good, meeting secret agents, using the moon thing as leverage for money and for the betterment of mankind... Okay. Let's drop the One Ring at Mount Doom and call it a date?"

Cass smirked. "We could build our respective places on the Moon. Or at least you build yours for now and we get to stargaze for a while with privacy? I do need to correct some tests later, though, so I'm afraid we will have to call it a date after a bit."

Lucas nodded and kissed her, looking around to make sure no one was looking and opening a gate into the far side of the moon, her area, and making it livable. The two stepped through to do some building and some stargazing 'the way it's meant to be done', as Lucas would later put it.

"It's odd, really..." - Said Cass, thoughtfully - "Is the human mind so adaptable that we get to treat being on the Moon and all things we did as a nice-but-normal experience?"

"I blame shock." - Said Lucas, smiling lightly - "I bet you we'll be wide-eyed tomorrow. Just resist the urge to tell someone. I can tell you. And you can tell me." - She kissed Cass.

Cass smirked. "Stole that line from Batman Beyond, did you?"

The two now resting on a deck chair big enough for both, by a modern-style house.

"Shock or no, though, I have to go." - Said Cass smiling - "Thank you for a very weird and wonderful date. See you tomorrow for us to play around with this place a bit?"

Lucas nodded and kissed her. "Agreed."

She opened a portal and, after one last kiss, Cass stepped through and into her living room.

Lucas smiled to herself and concentrated. The place was now completely silent. She willed herself to awake in two hours, stretched her wings, arms and legs, creating a light - and silent - breeze and reclining herself to sleep the sleep of the just. Well, to sleep the sleep of the free spirits anyways.
