Karyn's mother Bethany sighed, thinking about how she missed being outside in the Sun. Many people likely missed it as well, and yet... Karyn had a point - her transformation had been a lucky one, and Bethany herself might go through something much worse.
She opened the ceiling door to the attic...
Oh no.
The attic was a part of the house they seldom ever used. They had glued some newspaper to the windows for the shade, and not much else.
And now one of the newspapers had somehow presented a tear. One which allowed a ray to hit Bethany directly. She moved out of it, but it was too late.
Karyn was in her room lounging about when something rather odd happened.
A speech balloon with "KARYN, COME HERE, PLEASE!" in bold letters and guiding somewhere behind her door appeared.
What the fuck? - Thought Karyn. It sounded like her mother. Wait. That's not right. How could a speech balloon sound like someone? Yet...
Karyn moved her wheelchair towards where the source of the... written words.
She saw a young and completely unremarkable human woman, about 25... Yet said woman resembled her mother quite a bit. She knocked on a door. No sound came out, but the word "KNOCK" appeared as an onomatopoeia for it. Karyn could see the ray of sunshine, too. It wasn't hard to put two and two together.
"Mother?"
"I was hit... Seems I got off lightly, after a fashion..." - Said Linda, silently, as another speech balloon with those words appeared pointing to her mouth. It vanished a few seconds after Karyn finished reading it.
Well. - Thought Karyn dryly - She's still quite human, and younger at that, but her sounds were replaced by comic book ones. I don't know if I qualify this as mild or huge...
