Two weeks ago, East Yorkshire, England:
The sun rose, spreading it's shifting rays across a simple, little travelled country road. Birds began to chirp, the dew sparkled in the light, catching the light in brilliant, almost alien ways.
An old motorbike lay at the side of the road, its rider discarded a few meters away.
I don't want to die
The rider was alive, just. He had been thrown off by the bad road surface on the way home that night, and no-one else had come past since.
The light of the sun spread, covering him form, but his clothing prevented it from touching his skin.
I wish I was anywhere but here
There was a strange light from the rider's pocket as a pale blue stone, picked up at the beach that night on a whim began to glow and a strange sensation of motion ran through the rider's body.
He struggled to look up, to see what was happening, and saw the sun rise above the horizon in front of him.
And the world shattered.
Elsewhere, elsetime:
There was no light, yet no dark.
There was no sound, and yet it was a cacophony.
There was no feeling, yet it pressed from all directions.
Let me out...
There was but one entity here. How long they had been here, they did not know. Time did not work the same as usual here. There was no past, no present, no future, not on its own. One had to work out time and place for them self from the images from all three that flickered in one's mind.
Let me out!
A single time and place began to form from the scattered images and concepts. It was not where the being had entered, not when, but it was the same world, at least. It was somewhere that sense could be made.
LET ME OUT!
Four and four. Four numbers and four elements in one place, one time. And then the world granted passage to a place more solid.
Where ever the rest of the story is happening (Hayborough perhaps? I don't know, just suggesting a random possible name), Jon's school:
The air shuddered slightly, then tore as a hole in reality opened itself in midair. The rift stayed there for a short time as a vague shape appeared within before being dropped on this side.
Or, it would have been if it had actually dropped. Instead it sort of slowly floated downwards before coming to a gentle stop just as it touched the floor.
The shape appeared mostly human. Had it not been for the strangely pale tone of the skin, the way it seemed to only just acknowledge gravity and the way it seemed to become slightly transparent every now and again, then it would have appeared to be a normal human girl in her later teens, dressed in a simple robe of dark grey.
She was quite attractive, in an otherworldly sort of way and her presence gave off a strange feeling on unease, not malicious, but inherently unfamiliar.
The rift above her shimmered, groaned and then slowly began to fold in on itself. Just before it vanished, a small blue stone dropped out of it, landing next to the odd girl, and then it was gone, as though it had never been.
A few minutes passed before the girl's eyes fluttered open, unfocused and disorientated.
"Where am I?"
