Precisely the reason something like that should be implemented sooner rather than later though. Branches are only are only going to get longer and more convoluted. If new branches have an appended info tab...then at least it's a start and would stop the problem getting any worse. Older branches could have them applied at moderator or authors discretion.
Just spitballing I know. And I guess it's one of those ideas that would take an almost impossibly large effort to implement. Worth bearing in mind for future iterations of this kind of site though.
