"Ei, peraÃ, quê que é isso???" - That shout was suddenly heard from the tower of the church as Robert struggled against her captors, who, by now, were taking Robert in the direction of a noose on a tree. A second feminine voice, though not the same, chided in an ironic tone: "English, Marina. Now. I'm SURE these fine gentlemen will be DELIGHTED to inform us of the reason for their behavior. Just for the record, what Marina here said means 'Hey, wait, what's going on??'." - the voice carried a lot of venom in it, and some accent of something not entirely unlike Spanish as well.
The Purifiers looked up to see two different angels standing on the balcony. One of them carried a sword, looking like a female version of the usual "angel of vengeance" stereotype, and looked at the men with pure fury in her eyes.
The leader of the purifiers looked up in confusion. "We are vanquishing the Enemy from this church. Why do you react like this if you, too, are from the Lord?"
"As a freelance translator, I am proud to say I serve none. If there is a Lord, he surely is pretty pissed at you morons right now. And you are vanquishing JACK SQUAT on my watch. If you don't like it, if you want to take it to a higher authority, there isn't one. It stops with me!"
Marina would have rolled her eyes at the grandstanding of the other angel, also a Brazilian, Lucas, as he, or, well, she presented herself, in a less troublesome situation. She kept quiet, though, not wanting to call attention to the object in her hand.
"I don't know why you interfere with us, but we WILL do our work as instructed by the Lord!" - the Purifier shouted, pulling a knife from somewhere and aiming at Robert, who struggled even more. Suddenly, though, the Purifier felt the ground fail beneath him, as the angel grabbed him and flew just a few feet out of reach of the others. He felt a sting near his neck, and it became clear that the angel was holding her sword to it.
That was Robert's cue to struggle free and back away from the two other confused captors. Said captors had enough of their wits about them to know that the angel would kill their leader if they reacted, so they just stood there.
"Y-you can't do this! You would murder a servant of the Lord???" - the guy struggled - in vain.
"You are no servant of the Lord, and, by all accounts here, I CAN kill you."
The leader struggled some more, now in desperation. "B-but that's murder! You'd go to jail!"
"First of all, Marina there has some footage of what you were about to do to this girl. Indeed, she's currently filming it. I CAN kill people to defend others. Second of all, I'm not even from the US, and you don't know where I'm from. Third of all, I have it on good authority that one of the daughters of the judge in this district is a devil-changed. See, I know the OTHER daughter, an angel-changed. Fourth, most people know angels can't lie, and would trust me about what you were about to do. Fifth, we have no witnesses beyond the priest and Marina herself even if ALL the other details were flawed, and, though angels can't lie, they surely don't need to visit police departments to tell people about stuff. And, as per Marina's suggestion, I CAN keep the priest herself from telling on us by confessing it to her, as the priest would not breach the secrecy of a confession. Translation: Nobody. Will care. If I KILL YOU."
The Purifier gulped.
