[This is my first foray into this kind of project, and I hope that what I'm providing a. doesn't suck and b. doesn't trample on established tone or events. Just trying to add my own spin into the mix.]

Jay and Jenny had finished their meal at the pub, wrapped up their conversation on the shifting power structure of the news office, and were at this point well on their own ways home.

By the time Jay had reached his house, it was the dead of night, the not-as-of-yet-definitively-ominous rain pattering along the eaves above her door. She had just put her paw on the handle when a clear, calm voice spoke out to her, causing her to freeze up, tails frozen upward, hairs one end.

"Ms Jay? I presume?" The voice was as subtle and insinuating as someone clearing their throat in a polite way to gain someone's attention.

Jay slowly turned her head to see a tall... she presumed the figure was a man, in a black trench coat and fedora. The hat was lowered, covering his face. The shadowy entity stood at the foot of Jay's porch, paying no heed to the constant drizzle of rain falling upon him.

Jay was understandably freaked out. She didn't consider herself Wolverine or anything, but she knew her new senses were good enough to be reasonably able to detect someone sneaking up on her. This shadowman had snuck up right behind her without making a sound. Or a smell for that matter.

The mysterious caller spoke with a near absurd level of calmness and civility. "I apologize for startling you miss. I understand that this is a not entirely appropriate time to contact you, but I've just arrived the area and I'm eager to begin my investigations."

Jay was becoming more and more unnerved by this stranger. Investigations? Just who the hell is this guy?! Jay gathered up her nerve, and silently tried to get her tails to settle down. "W-who are you? And just what the hell are you talking about? What do you want? I'm packing mace you know!"

The Shadowy man seemed entirely unaffected by Jay's panic, or her threat. "There's no need to be alarmed Ms. Jay, I merely wish to ask you about certain recent events that you've observed. Certain portentous events.

At first, Jay had no idea what this guy was talking about. But then she remembered the crack in the air, and Toby's story about Magical girls and weird portals. And the photo "How do you know I've seen anything "portentious", and you still haven't told me who the hell you are!"

The shadowy man nodded in deference. "I apologize. My name by itself is unimportant, but my business here is incredibly important." He raised black-sleeved arm, and gripped the brim of his black fedora with a black-gloved hand. "I am an agent under the employ of the government, and I'm here investigating the inexplicable events in an attempt to explain them. As well as see just how they are unfolding. I understand you have recently come into some information which would be considered confidential."

Jay stiffened. He knew. What did this mean about her informant, Knight? Had he been caught? Furthermore, what was going to happen to her?! Here she was at the mercy of this shady Gman in the middle of the night, with her hand in the metaphorical cookie jar.

"Don't worry ma'am. Your acquaintance is under "good" care. After some negotiating with my superiors on my part, he should come to no trouble, provided he does not repeat his stunt. I feel that it may have been beneficial for an inkling of the bigger picture be provided to those at what growing evidence is indicating as the "epicenter" of unfolding events. "

Jay relaxed slightly. Whoever this "agent" was, he didn't appear to be intending her any harm. Hell, if he wanted to, he probably could have just grabbed her completely unawares a few minutes ago. She still couldn't get over how stealthy this man was.

But it was clear she was expected to divulge what she knew about the weird stuff happening besides the general weirdness brought about by the sun changing people.

Jay told the shadowy figure what she knew, and to spare you the repeated information, we move on to the interior of Jay's home, the agent having politely asked of he could come in. Jay remembered to ask for some form of badge or identification, making sure this wasn't just some freaky assassin, or god forbid, another one of Anderson's schemes.

After Jay had finished recounting what she knew, The Gman nodded calmly and stood up from his chair. "Thank you Ma'am, you've been extremely helpful" As he made his way to the door, he paused and turned back. "You say your employer had recently been involved in a serious "event"? Don't you find it interesting how she has been so involved in recent events, both mundane and metaphysical?"

Jay paused to consider the idea, it was a bit strange now that he'd mentioned it.

"Separate and interwoven events are transpiring, Ms jay, in increasingly interesting ways. It would appear that a narrative is forming. From my starting branch of events, starting with our informant friend, you were the next obvious link in the chain. But of course, we may as of yet be far from the root of things. It's a matter of perspective Ms. Jay." He paused, halfway out the door. "Sorry I almost forgot. You asked me who I was. I'm Agent Hawkins. Nathan Hawkins."

The Gman tipped his hat, and for the first time Jay saw the features eing hidden by the downturned cap. A plain white mask, like something from a masquerade mixed with Phantom of the Opera, covering what the eyes and nose would be. But the face surrounding it was just inky blackness.

Jay rubbed rubbed her eyes at the disconcerting sight, and when she opened her eyes, Agent Hawkins was already gone.
