Sir Garrett travel uneasily following Lady Brana, because he felt awkward with his new size, but he was determined to be ready when the time for combat came. He was thankful his equipment and weapons had grown with him because the equipment of the giants was unfamiliar to him. He had to admit the figure of Lady Brana was pleasing to the eye to look at as she walked ahead of him, but he wanted to be back in the capital with Princess Fina as soon as possible.
“A terrible fomorian has come from beneath the earth and is calling on the giants of frost to make war so they can have a kingdom of their own,” Lady Brana told him of the dangers. “He has dark magic he can call upon that has inspired many in the kingdom to follow him. If you were to challenge him to combat and defeat him his evil would soon leave the kingdom.”
“I fear it is not as simple as that,” Sir Garrett responded. “He may not accept my challenge.”
She turned and looked offended, “He is a giant in the lands of the frozen tundra. He would be honor bound to accept any challenge made to him.”
The paladin loved honorable combat, but he had experienced enough in his travels to know not all felt the same way as this woman. The fomorian were an evil group of giants who would give much to gain victory over an enemy even if it wasn’t honorable, and who knew what evil entity this creature had bound himself to in order to gain his dark magic. Sir Garrett had fought a fomorian before and many in his group had not long survived the encounter. The dark giants loved curses and often attached death curses to themselves as a last spite against the world. He was not looking forward to facing the creature alone.
“The fomorian do not believe in honor like the giants of ice do,” Sir Garrett explained. “He will likely try to appoint a champion to fight for him at first, most likely the greatest warrior around who he will have bound to obey him like a slave. If I am victorious he will try to use his evil magic against me in some form or fashion to remain in your lands.”
“He has promised that he respects our ways, surely he won’t betray that trust!?!”
“I have yet to hear of a fomorian who wouldn’t betray anything if it got them what they wanted.”
Her face looked troubled by this news but their was little he could tell her that would comfort her that would be the truth. Sir Garrett was by no means certain of victory against this monster but he would fight him with everything he could. If this foul creature could gather an army of frost giants thousands could die if he did nothing. He wished he could summon help to assist him but he doubted help would come in time because the longer they waited to stop the fomorian the longer he would have to bind the other giants to his will.
