Norville and Daphne stepped close to one another, making sure their predecessors were nearby. Then they leaned forward, with formality but with passion beneath the surface, pulling each other into a deep kiss.
As their lips touched, a yellow flash swept over all six in blue, and when it was gone they had disappeared. The other members of the pool did not seem to react with any particular fervor to this: the fully assimilated didn't react to the yellow flash any more than they did the red or white, and the incomplete were all distracted with other matters.
The blue group, meanwhile, did not return to the regular world, but rather relocate to another island within the foggy limbo. The room was bare: painted the same blue as the first generation's swimwear and the second's bodysuits. There were no clear exits, and the source of the room's illumination was hardly clear.
"Where are we?" Buffy said, not so much asking as demanding.
"Consider it a sort of communal chrysalis," Daphne replied. "It is here where the final stages of the plan occur."
"My equivalent and I are the only ones who must act here. You four must only wait for the briefest of whiles," Norville explained.
"Wait for what?" Buffy asked.
"For your ascension, of course," Daphne said. "During Norville and I's joining, the four of you will experience the next and final stage of your evolution, where you go beyond your past to be born anew."
"Born anew? Cut the riddles, and just tell me what you mean!" Buffy demanded.
"Consider it an amplification. You all have been going through a process, and with this stage your burgeoning aspects will come to full fruition, and you will leave humanity behind as you become the start of something far greater."
Buffy was no more satisfied with that answer than the ones before, but Daphne and Norville ignored her, turning their attention back to one another. They drew close again, touching each other in a very similar manner to how their parents had touched one another not very long before...
