"This is a hard decision, I know. But we have to make it. One of us can stay, but the other has to go," Carson said. He turned and looked over at Daphne, Sonja, and Iwalani. "The others already know of our predicament. They'll expect us to deal with it with haste." He turned back towards Ryan, who looked concerned, but not scared.
"I understand. It's for the good of the plan," Ryan said, nodding.
"Whichever one of us it turns out to be won't actually be gone, though, as you know," Carson said. "Your spirit will enter the next born of the green. Which will most likely be female. You may not remember being Ryan. But you'll still be you, for the most part."
"Or you'll still be you, if you're the one who must disappear," Ryan said.
"Yes, of course." Carson paused. "From our parents, I remember what it's like being female, but to tell you the truth, I'm a bit apprehensive at becoming female myself."
"As am I. But there can't be two of us," Ryan said. "One of us has to go."
Carson nodded. "Then by what manner shall we choose?"
