"I wish that Mrs. Black wouldn't get pregnant from my wish!" Jon started to calm down a little. At least Mrs. Black would be safe now.
"Jon! Calm down! You need to stop making wishes! That one could also go wrong! You really need to think before you speak! Idiot!"
By now Jon was starting to calm down. Sheepishly he realized that perhaps his last wish had been a bit impulsive. He should have talked to Karyn about it first, but honestly, he didn't see what harm that wish could do. He'd been pretty specific that she only wouldn't get pregnant from his wish. He hadn't made her infertile or anything.
To him, the wish seemed pretty harmless.
"Sorry, I was just trying to fix it."
Karyn gave him an angry look before sighing. They both turned back to the bus stop. What was taking it so long?
"Look, Jon-boy, I know you're trying to help, but my mom doesn't want another kid. We should be finding a way to make it so I don't get a sibling at all, instead of assuming the wish will come true. There's still time to find a way around it."
Jon smiled. Happy that Karyn was willing to overlook his blunder. She was angry, but he knew her well enough to know that it wouldn't last. They brainstormed for a couple of minutes before the bus showed up and they hopped on. With the other students there, they'd needed to abort all discussion about the stone or either of their accidental wishes. Soon he'd almost entirely forgotten about the rock. Lost in a discussion about school, assignments, and their fellow classmates.
Besides for his friends larger chest that seemed to weigh heavily on his mind for some reason he still couldn't pin down, all seemed right in the world.
But elsewhere...
Mrs. Black stood in the restaurant's bathroom. Eying the wine stain on her shirt with a scowl. She tossed her long blond hair behind her with a huff. Readjusting the wet 'girls' in her shirt. Grimacing as the cold red liquid sank down to the soft flesh causing two nubs to peek through the fabric of her bra. With a sigh, she surveyed the damage. Honestly, sometimes being a well-endowed woman could be such a pain! Especially when wet...
With a sigh she started washing off the front as best she could, trying to save the shirt, though knowing that the red would never come out. She felt like crying. She was just so frustrated!
The evening had been going so well! She'd met Erick a few weeks ago and was surprised when he asked her out on a date this evening. At work, she'd thought he was a bit stuck up, and tended towards being lazy and inconsiderate. If he wasn't such a hunk she wouldn't have given it a second thought, but in a moment of weakness and loneliness she had said yes, despite her apprehensions. Now, though!
He was funny, considerate, and attentive. Dreamy even!
He'd awakened feelings in her that she'd long thought extinguished. Even remembering him now brought a girlish flutter to her stomach. Honestly! Despite her youthful looks, she was still 38! Not some teenager on a first date with their crush! 'Get a hold of yourself girl!' she thought.
The date had been perfect. She'd had more fun than she'd had in years! Then in the middle of a discussion-when she was just about ready to jump his bones-Erick's hand had jerked and his wine glass had spilled directly onto her shirt. He'd apologized profusely but she'd waved him off and headed for the restroom to fix herself up. She still felt hot and bothered by this 'new' Erick, but after the spill, she was in no mood to invite him over to 'get to know each other'.
"Wouldn't do to reward him for spilling wine on me now would it?"
Giving herself a winning smile she happily left the bathroom humming to herself. She'd have to see if Erick would be willing to go out next weekend. The new Erick was simply too perfect to stay mad at long.
Miles away, the stone sat in Jon's pocket working its magic.
When Jon had made his first wish, the Stone had found a simple way to bring the wish about. It wasn't evil, and so long as there wasn't another wish that contradicted, it tried to go along with the spirit of the wisher. And that was what it had done.
It had been simplicity itself to change Erick a little. Erasing his laziness, adding a bit of compassion and wit. After altering these few things the wish had ceased and the Stone had been content knowing that the wish was fulfilled. All was well.
And then had come the second wish.
Once again the rock had quickly taken action, causing Erick's hand to jerk and spill the wine. The stone examined causality and was happy to see that the second wish was complete. It didn't bother to turn Erick back, knowing that Mrs. Black would take the proper precautions in their relationship from then on. She had skimped on her birth control pills when her love life had dried up, but after tonight she would once more begin taking them. She would not become pregnant. The wish was fulfilled.
The stone was about to rest once again, when it realized that something was terribly wrong!
'I just wish that you'd get a younger sibling.'
There was a wish still unfulfilled! This would not do!
The Stone examined the strings of causality, noting that many of the previous possibilities had darkened. No longer possible because of the second wish.
The Stone didn't mind though. There were plenty of other possibilities available that didn't contradict another wish. Infinite, even.
And so the Stone plucked at causality again. Feeling the joy and contentment of another wish being fulfilled. For the stone only a wish was sacred! To go back on a wish was blasphemy of the highest order! A sacrilige it could not tolerate! Not even the pleasure and happiness of fulfilling a wish could compete with the horrendous crimes of breaking one!
The power receded and the stone once more was but a small wishing stone waiting for its next wish. Truly an incomprehensible being.
No matter what Jon or Karyn did, Karyn WOULD have a younger sibling. It was inevitable.
All was well.
