"Jon-boy! Over here!" Karyn called as she waved at her friend. Jon smiled and waved back to show that he had seen her. Karyn had been waiting for Jon outside the school.
"So how was your day?" Karyn asked as they made their way out of the school gates.
"Interesting." Jon replied seemingly lost in thought.
"Oh? Do tell." Karyn said intrigued.
"Amber Levine asked me out."
"Amber!?" Karyn repeated shocked. "Isn't she the cheerleader who's always hanging around with Sarah and her friends desperately trying to be popular?"
Jon nodded. "That's the one."
"Wow." Karyn exclaimed. "So what did you say?"
"I said yes. I gave her my number and she said that she'd call me." Jon told his friend.
Karyn was a little disappointed. She had secretly been harbouring a crush on Jon and had always thought that they would share their first date together, but she wasn't petty. She was happy for her friend.
"Wow. Congratulations." She told him.
"Thanks." Jon said. "I wonder if it had anything to do with my wish though." Jon said thinking out loud.
"What do you mean?" Karyn asked. "You didn't make a wish did you?"
Jon nodded. "And it was a stupid one but so far nothing bad seems to have happened."
"What did you wish for?" Karyn asked worried.
"I wished for something interesting to happen." Karyn stopped in her tracks.
"Wow Jon. That was really stupid."
"I know." Jon said hanging his head. "I was bored and I had forgotten that the stone was in my hand."
"Well if Amber Levine asking you out is the only thing to have come out of it then it can't be that bad can it?" Karyn said
Jon shook his head. That's when something caught his eye. Or rather someone.
"What is it?" Karyn asked noticing that Jon was staring. She followed his gaze until she landed on Yukio Meshida. The lone Japanese student.
"What's she doing?" Jon wondered. "Doesn't she normally go straight home from school?" He asked Karyn.
"Usually. Maybe she's made a friend and is waiting for them?" Karyn suggested.
"I don't know." Jon said not sure. "She looks nervous. I'm going to ask her." Jon said.
"Really?" Karyn asked surprised. She looked at her watch. "Well I'm going home." She told Jon. "I promised mom that I would be back to help her with the shopping."
Jon nodded. "See you later." He said as he made his way towards Yukio. He had never spoken to her before but he knew that she was a bit shy. So he approached her slowly.
"Hi. Yukio isn't it?" Jon asked causing Yukio to jump. "Sorry." He said quickly. "I didn't mean to scare you."
Yukio calmed down and then shyly greeted him. "Hi" she said.
"Are you alright?" Jon asked. "You look nervous."
"Everyone's acting strangely." She said.
Jon blinked. He wasn't expecting that. "How do you mean?"
"Guys are dressing nicer. Girls, holding doors open for boys. That sort of thing."
Jon paused. "Wait so you notice it too?" Jon asked. Yukio looked at him and then nodded.
"I thought that I was the only one." Jon told her. "My mom looked at my top this morning and told me that it looked cute on me."
"What do you think going on?" Yukio asked shyly but glad that someone else had noticed.
"I'm not sure." Jon told her. He thought about it for a moment and then pulled out his phone
"Here, I'll give you my number." He said. "Text me if you notice something else going on. We'll figure it out."
Yukio nodded as she entered Jon's number into her phone. She then sent a test message to make sure that it was correct. She smiled weakly at him.
"Thanks." She said.
Jon nodded and then said goodbye and headed home.
As he walked he thought about his day. So he wasn't the only one who noticed. Who else noticed? He thought back to lunchtime and seeing Biff acting oddly. Could it be that he was noticing as well?
As much as Jon hated the guy he knew that he would have to talk to him tomorrow.
