"After that, I have a full day at work, but I will pick you up after school," she promised. "I want you to make friends. Maybe that nice Mikey Gibson..." she suggested.
"I'll try, Mommy," he said.
They finished their breakfast and after clearing up Rebecca handed Alex a pink schoolbag.
"Now I've made you a packed lunch. Your favourite." She said smiling.
"Oh goodie!" Alex replied excitedly as he jumped up and down clutching the bag. "Thank you mommy?" He said.
Smiling Rebecca took his hand and then picked up her keys and purse and then led him out of the house.
She put Alex in the back seat and then drove off towards the elementary school.
When they arrived Rebecca parked the car and then held Alex's hand as they entered the building.
Alex started to get nervous. He walked quickly and quietly behind his mommy trying to make himself as small as possible. Rebecca took him to the principal's office and then knocked on the door.
"Ah, you must be Miss Fine." The principal said as they entered the office. "And you must be Alex." He said as they sat down.
Alex nodded slowly as Rebecca laughed.
"Yes, this is my daughter Alex. I'm afraid he's rather shy." She explained.
"Oh that's alright." The principal said chuckling. "A lot of our pupils are shy on their first day but they soon make friends."
"Actually I was wondering if I could talk to you about that." Rebecca said.
"I was wondering if I could talk with Alex's class before he gets settled in?"
