Since it was raining, there wasn’t a lot that they could do. Getting things out of storage was out of the question, so both Zoe and Linda had to make do with what they could find around the house. Zoe settled herself in the living room and watched TV, while Kiera asked if Linda could play house with her, happy to have two moms around the house. Jonchelle watched as everybody went their separate ways, an odd feeling of contentment surrounding her. It was almost like this was supposed to be. She just wished that more people would stick to the resolution. She had a feeling that by the end, it would be just her and Vanessa—maybe Kiera—left.

And then it hit her.

Snapping her fingers in a sort of Eureka moment, she bounded up the stairs and into her room where she grabbed her phone making sure to shut the door behind her. She waited impatiently for the call to connect.

“Hey Nessa,” she began, not even waiting for Vanessa to acknowledge the call. “I’ve got an idea for a wish but I want you to be here with me.”

“Right now?” Vanessa asked. “But it’s pouring outside.”

“Please!” Jonchelle pleaded. “It’s important. It involves both of us.”

Vanessa seemed to perk up. “Oh, alright then, I’ll be over as soon as I can. Love you.”

“Love you too.” Jonchelle replied as Vanessa hung up. She tossed her phone onto her bed and then went over to where she hid the rock, eager to share her wish with her girlfriend.

Vanessa showed up about half an hour later.

“Like the rain boots,” Jonchelle complimented her girlfriend as she took them off and set them by the door.

“So what’s up, babe?”

“Well… I just feel like nobody’s gonna stick to this resolution. What if it’s just the two of us? Then we’ll be the loneliest people around,” Chelle explained as she and Vanessa went up the stairs.

“What’s making you feel like this?”

“Well, in the last two days, my younger brother and dad both switched back. Now we have five girls in the house, not that I’m complaining about that…”

“I feel you… Monika said she was going back next week, so…” she trailed off. “What do you want to do, sweetie?” she asked as the two entered her bedroom.

“This is what I want to do,” Jonchelle began, taking the box with the stone off the makeup vanity and clasping the object in her hand.

“I wish that more new girls stuck with the resolution and stayed girls.”

The familiar flash forced the two to look away for a moment, then Jonchelle put the stone back in its box and where she had been hiding it.
