This whole situation seemed incredulous to Karyn. After all, Jon was talking about missing people that she didn't even know were missing, because she didn't know who Jon was talking about. She didn't know anyone with the last name of Meadows, but Jon insisted that not only did she, but the whole high school. What made her believe Jon, however, was the wishing stone. She knew that using that thing could really mess over people's heads. She had experience of that herself.
"It all sounds so strange, but I believe you," Karyn said. "I know how that stone works. It messes with people's minds, if they don't hear the wish. Like my mom. After I made that wish to have the same blond hair and boobs as Adele, she thought I was always ..."
"Wait, did you say Adele?" Jon asked. The only Adele he knew of was that shy German exchange student that just started school a few weeks ago.
"Huh? Uh, yeah. Adele McMillan. Why?"
"Because that's not who it was. Not before I made that wish that made the workmen show up. It was Sarah."
"Your sister?"
"No. I mean yes. Well, I mean, she wasn't my sister then. She was Sarah McMillan."
"This is really getting confusing, Jon."
"Not if you know what's going on." Then a thought occurred to him. Why hadn't he already thought of this? He grabbed the stone and said "I wish Karyn noticed all the changes caused by the workmen, just like I do." The stone glowed and suddenly Karyn's eyes went wide.
"Oh my god, you're right! And you said I'm next? Jon, I don't want to become someone else!"
