"There you are," a voice said from behind Melissa. "Why did you run off like that?"
The former cheerleader turned and saw Jay Duncan, the biggest nerd from her high school (head of the chess club, head of the science club, and head of the computer club). Why was he talking to her? Melissa made fun of the nerds and geeks on a daily basis, and Jay was no exception. He was one of the last people that Melissa thought would ever go out of his way to talk to her.
"Why are you talking to me?" Melissa asked, after he caught up with her.
He looked oddly at her, then asked "What do you mean? We're best friends, aren't we?"
Melissa was stunned. In what universe were they best friends? What the hell was going on here? She turned away only briefly, trying to figure that out. But when she looked back, Jay was gone! And in his place was a girl wearing his nerdy clothes. Now Melissa was even more confused.
"How did I get here?" the new girl asked.
