"No, no, I'm fine, really," Quill said, irked and a little embarrassed by her sister's lover's concern. "Things aren't particularly bad or anything, at leas no more than fucking usual. My bandmates acting like fucking idiots, a bunch band of sparkly bitch queens showing up exactly when we don't need them to, nothing out of the usual."

"Oh. Well if you need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here," Demi offered. She wasn't the best at interpersonal relations, but Nadie was always pushing her to be more considerate, and Nadie's estranged sister seemed like someone Nadie would certainly want considered.

"Fuck, it's not that. I don't need to cry it out or see a shrink or anything, it's just... with all the little things going on, I want this shit between my sister and I done with, right? I mean, I know that the stuff we get into is really bloody petty when I think about it, but whenever we try to reconnect it starts all over again."

"No, I know. Relationships can be... hard," Demi said, though in truth she had far more experience fabricating relationships for her books than she did working on real world ones.

"No fucking shit. Look, this still isn't certain yet, so don't tell Nadie, but... if things go well with this gig, we might get hired on a permanent basis. Which means the band would be living here, in the city."

"Really? That's-" Demi began, before realizing Nadie was still lying on the bed right next to her. She quietly excused herself, walking into the hall before continuing in a lower tone of voice. "That's great. So has the band found somewhere to stay?"

"Not yet. Like I said, it's not a done thing. Don't worry, I won't try to crash at your guy's place. Just letting you know. I'll try to come by later to smooth things over with Nadie. Anything you could do to help with that would be really nice, seeing as we'll be living in the same bloody city and all that."

"No, no, I understand. Thanks for the heads up."

"Alright. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to find a fucking nicotine patch before my head explodes," Quill said, before hanging up the phone.
