Richard hung up the phone, frowning a bit. The nerve of Melony, not being there when there was a crisis.
He wrapped his suddenly delicate and manicured hands around the doorknob, taking a moment to take a breath, then emerged from his "new" manager's office.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Richards," one of the cleaning staff said.
"Good afternoon, Fred."
"Warren," he muttered.
"What?"
"Nothing," he said, getting back to work as Richard turned his attention to some other detail, grabbing one of the serving staff to complain about their appearance.
There were a lot of rumors about how Richards had gotten the job. Most of them revolved around the fact he could impress the people who needed to be impressed, and stab in the back anyone who got in his way.
He was the classic spoiled rich phony.
