Former Mrs. Rosemary Finch, the high school librarian, looked over at Yuki with a look of familiarity. She didn't know why she didn't recognize her before, but now she knew for certain that this was her commanding officer Colonel Rogers.
"No need to salute, Lieutenant," Yuki said, still changing, aging into her mid-thirties. "I'm just coming by to see how you're doing."
"I'm doing fine, sir," Rosemary said. "And I'm eager to get out of here and back into action." For a moment, that sounded strange. Wasn't she used to having a quiet and safe job? She shook her head. No, that wasn't right. She was a soldier. There wasn't anything quiet or safe about that.
"Well, from what the doctors are saying, that may happen sooner than you think."
