Derek voiced the first words that came to mind. "I just came from the pharmacy. I don't know how much of your medication you have left, but you mentioned you were running low so I figured I'd give you some more just in case."
Gladys nodded, not really sure what Derek was talking about but deciding to roll with it. "Oh. Thanks, but you know you didn't have to come to school just to give it to me. I had enough to get through the day."
"Oh. Sorry. I didn't embarrass you, did I?"
"No, it's fine. I appreciate your concern and all. It's just you shouldn't feel burdened to go out of your way to win me over. I don't resent your or anything for marrying my dad."
Derek wasn't sure why, but for some reason Gladys' words meant a lot to him. "Well, thanks," he said, pulling the medication out of the purse he didn't realize he had been carrying. "Here's your medication."
Gladys took it, nodding appreciatively before slipping back into class. Derek stood in the hall for a moment, feeling a strange sense of satisfaction. Then he realized he was carrying a purse When did I start carrying a purse? Derek wondered. But then again, I guess it would only make sense I'm carrying one. Where else would I keep my things?
And with that, Derek headed down the hall towards the exit, unaware as his boyish hips pushed out to womanly proportions.
