“Hey, isn’t that Bailey?” Jonchelle asked. Vanessa looked over to where she was pointing, and indeed, there she was—dressed a little differently and with her hair tied into a ponytail, but there was no mistaking the huge muscular frame that belonged to the former quarterback.
“I thought that you said that she was going back to being a guy?” Jonchelle turned to Ryan. Ryan sighed and raised his hands up in the air.
“You caught me, I guess. Technically, she never said that she wanted to stop. She just said that she didn’t want to be some blonde cheerleader like I was.”
“And what’s wrong with that?” Vanessa chimed in, placing her hands on her hips and glaring at Ryan. Just when she thought that she could trust Ryan.
“Nothing!” Ryan quickly replied. He looked around and then tried to recover. “I guess with me being a cheerleader and him the star of the football team, it’s like, we were supposed to be together. You know? It’s like in the movies, the quarterback and the head cheerleader. When we started drifting into our new personas, we began to realize that we had nothing in common besides football and while I can still hang out with the popular crowd, I don’t want to have anything to do with sports. We just need time to figure out the people who we want to be. Maybe someday we’ll get back together again, but…” He shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know. I don’t want to think that far ahead at the moment.” Ryan sunk his face into his hands, overwhelmed.
Jonchelle and Vanessa looked at each other, unsure of how to respond. Vanessa finally piped up.
“There’s no one way to be a girl or guy, you—” A voice called out to them, interrupting Vanessa’s reply.
“Grace! Ryan! There you are!” The four of them turned towards the direction of the voice and saw a brunette haired girl walking towards them and waving. She looked a little exhausted.
“Oh, God. Thank goodness I found you. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
Grace looked at Ryan and then back, puzzled. “You know that you could have just called us,” she suggested. The girl frowned.
“I did but you had your phone on silent again, dummy.”
Grace dug into her purse and pulled out her phone to look at it. She laughed. “Heh, I guess I did. Sorry babe, we got a bit distracted shopping.”
“So I see!” The girl eyed the many shopping bags by her friend’s feet. She then looked over towards Jonchelle and Vanessa. Grace saw this and then introduced the two girls.
“This is Jonchelle and Vanessa, they’re friends of Ryan’s. Girls, this is Carly, my best friend.”
