"I'm sorry, who are you?" Jon asked, puzzled by this strange girl.
Before Zoe could reply, a voice came from inside. "Oh, there you are!" Linda Madison said, coming to the doorway. "I was wondering where you wandered off to! I know you're eager to explore the town, and you're perfectly old enough to to do so, but I would appreciate it if you would tell me. I am your host mother after all."
Jon blinked, a strange feeling passing over him when Linda said the word 'mother.' But it quickly passed, and recognition kicked in. Of course, she is the mother of my host family, Jon thought, wondering for a moment why he hadn't called her before heading out. Did he really off? Jon couldn't seem to recall the trip prior to waking up on bench. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Madison, it won't happen again. Who is this girl?"
Linda looked at Zoe and gave a small chuckle. "Oh her? This is my daughter Zoe, of course. She's been out of town for the first couple weeks you've been here. Don't you remember me mentioning her?"
Jon nodded, vague memories stirring in his mind. "Right, sorry. It's a pleasure to meet you," he said, looking at Zoe.
"Whatever," Zoe said, before receiving an elbow jab from her mother. The gothic girl shot her mother a look, then rolled here eyes and tried again. "Hey there, I'm Zoe Madison," she said sullenly, holding out a hand to Jon.
