"Who is this?" Stephanie asked.
There was a pause, then the boy continued. "Mom, it's me. Jimmy. I ... really need you to come to school." There was another pause, then a woman's voice. "I'm sorry if it inconveniences you, but your son has gotten into a bit of trouble."
"What's he done this time?" Stephanie asked. She immediately wondered why she just said that. For a moment, it felt completely normal that she had a son, but she wasn't old enough to have a son.
