“Don’t be silly,” snorted Joseph, “It was a lab accident.”

“Umm what. We’re you bitten by a radioactive pussy or something?”

“They’re not superheroes,” chuckled Joseph. “It was three years ago and we were on a field trip to McMillan Industries. There was this tank of goo or something; not really sure I wasn’t paying attention; and it cracked and dumped all the goo onto Steve, Damian, Trevor and the other two.”

“What about Jon?”

Joseph clapped me on the shoulder “Big hero pushed me and our friend Matt out of the way and got dumped on himself.”

I blushed at the praise.

“Wow, that’s incredible.”

I shrugged. “It was nothing.” I didn’t add that that was because as far as I was concerned it had never actually happened.

“So, umm, do you like guys Jon?”

The question took me off guard and I stared at him, not knowing what to say. Fortunately, Joseph came to my rescue again and answered for me. “I can confirm that he does.” I blinked and looked at him in surprise. Had Joe and I... “I took him on a date last week actually.”

“Oh,” said Jeff, a twinge of disappointment in his voice.

“I’m sure he’ll say yes if you ask,” grinned Joseph, “Right Jon?”

“Uh, yeah,” I replied slightly confused.

“But aren’t you two...”

“We’re casual,” grinned Joseph “He’s free to date any guy or girl he fancies. Not as if we’re doing it.”

In the background the noise levels had risen again as everyone piled out of the shower to dry off.

“We, err, we should go get showered,” I interjected, hoping to cut the conversation short. The two of them nodded and went to get their things. Sighing with relief I quickly stripped off and wrapped a towel around my waist. Making sure no one was around, I slipped my hand into my bag and touched the stone, muttering “I wish Karyn and I could remember this new reality.” With that I headed for the shower, taking the long route to avoid the crowd.
