"Oh, hello, Gretchen," Mikey said. "Do you want a lift to school? It's on the way."
The old woman was obviously confused for a moment. School? She didn't go to school. Or did she?
As Linda watched, Gretchen's look of confusion transformed into a look of understanding and then a look of relief. She smiled at Mikey, then said "That would be totally cool, Mrs. Madison. I need to, like, get there as soon as possible," she said, with a bubbly voice that didn't seem to match her age at all. The old woman paused for a moment, as a brief wave of confusion swept over her. She wondered why she felt so bubbly all of a sudden, but then just shrugged it off.
She grabbed a school bag from the ground (which wasn't there a moment ago), then skipped over towards the car. Linda wondered if Gretchen even realized that she had changed. She could be just like Mikey, thinking that everything was normal.
All three got in the car and soon they were off to the high school to drop Gretchen Wilson off.
