He turned to see some guy his age. He had no idea who he was, just that he went to the same school as Jon.
"Hey?" he replied hesitantly.
"Nice shirt," grinned the guy. It was odd, but it didn't sound like he was mocking Jon. Likewise, the people who'd looked over when Jon had first slipped through the door had turned back to their conversations without a second thought.
"Thanks," smiled Jon, "Pink is so my colour."
"I can tell, it suits you," chuckled the guy. Before Jon could reply, someone set off a party popper, showering them in glitter. The guy pulled a face and brushed the glitter off him. "Could do without this stuff though."
"Aww," pouted Jon playfully, wondering why he'd stopped to flirt with this guy, "I like it, my dream prom would have enough of it to build snowmen out of it."
The guy chuckled. "Well it does look pretty in your hair."
Jon grinned with a blush and ran his fingers through his long blond hair. The guy offered Jon a drink he'd been holding and Jon took it with a perfect plastic skinned hand.
The nagging sensation that this was wrong finally got through to him. Smiling coyly at the suddenly cute guy, Jon glanced at their reflection in the chrome refrigerator next to them and forced himself not to gulp. Where his reflection should have been was what looked like a living barbie. His, or rather her, eyes flicked back to the guy and then around the room. Like Jon, the guy looked like a living plastic doll, and it looked like a few others were also dolllike, though most were regular humans.
"What's your name?" asked Jon with a suspicion that she knew what the guy was going to say.
"Ken," he replied with a smile. "You?"
