When Jon woke up again, he was momentarily shocked to find himself holding Zoe in his arms. What happened to the pillows he stacked between them? He let go of Zoe and looked around the room. They were gone. Had someone come in there while he was asleep and removed them?
He rocked Zoe's body until she stirred awake. She looked at him and smiled. "Hi, sweetie," she said, then as she woke up a little more, her smile faded. "Jon?" She looked around. "It wasn't a dream."
"Zoe, the pillows are gone," Jon said.
Zoe sat up and looked around the room. He was right. They didn't fall off the bed or anything. They just weren't there.
"And when I woke up, I was holding you in my arms."
She turned and looked at him. "You were?" She felt like she should have been disgusted by that, but for some reason, she wasn't.
And Jon felt the same way. At first, he was shocked by it, but as the minutes passed by, he felt more and more comfortable about it. As if it were no big deal.
