The knob on the bedroom door turned and Karyn held her breath as the door opened, revealing a middle-aged woman, dressed in a see-through robe. And Karyn could see that she was wearing no underwear underneath.
"Karyn? Are you okay?" the woman asked.
Karyn didn't know what to say. She was now in shock even more than before. And all the while, she was trying to figure out who this woman was and where she had seen her before.
The woman approached her, smiling, and then gently squeezed one of Karyn's breasts through her negligee. The inappropriateness of what the woman did caused Karyn to take a few steps back. That made the woman concerned.
"Karyn? What's wrong?"
"How do you know me?" Karyn asked.
"Excuse me?"
"What am I doing here, in this house?"
The woman looked oddly at her. "You live here. With me."
"With you? I don't even know who you are," Karyn said.
"What are you saying? That you have amnesia? Karyn, come on, it's me. Your lover. Don't you remember?"
"Lover?" Karyn asked, taking a few more steps back. She wasn't even remotely interested in other females.
"You ... you really don't remember, do you?"
Karyn shook her head. "I don't even know how I got here. The last thing I remember was going to bed in my own bedroom, at my house."
"Your house? Karyn, you haven't lived there since you were a sophomore. After we fell in love, we decided to live together in this house."
"What?" Karyn asked, eyes wide. That settled it. She wasn't missing any memories. All of reality had changed. She was a junior in high school right now. She definitely knew for sure that she hadn't been living with some woman (a lesbian woman) for the last year. She had memories for that entire time period. But what could cause this?
Then something occurred to her that hadn't occurred to her earlier (although she wasn't sure why): the stone! Jon must have used it to give her this new life. But why would he wish for her to be living with a lesbian woman? It didn't seem like something that Jon would wish for. Unless ... he wasn't the one that wished it.
She had to find him and ask him what happened.
"I have to go," Karyn said, moving towards the door.
"What? Where?" the woman asked.
Karyn narrowed her eyes towards the woman. Where had she seen this woman from? She just had to know. "I'll tell you, but first ... who are you? You do seem familiar to me. But I can't remember."
