For a moment, Jon thought about darting towards the woman and grabbing her, to keep her from answering the door. But the police were right outside. If they heard a struggle, they might have enough reason to break down the door. He'd look even more guilty.
But, as it turned out, he didn't have to do a thing.
As the woman reached for the door, she vanished. At first, Jon was shocked and didn't quite understand what was happening. But then he figured that her disappearance must have been associated with the wish he made. But were the teleportations random? Or was there a pattern to them?
The police knocked on the door again. "Ma'am, is there a problem?"
Yeah, Jon thought. The problem is that she's not here. But where did she go?
As Amanda reached for the door, everything suddenly went black. Then everything came back, but she was no longer in her living room. She turned around and saw that she was standing in the foyer of a very large house. How did she get there?
She turned back towards the door and grabbed the doorknob and turned it, meaning to leave. Suddenly, a loud alarm blared throughout the house. Then she heard shouting from upstairs. She turned around and saw that the upstairs lights were on. And a moment later, a man appeared. He was maybe thirty-ish and quite good looking, but at the moment, he was probably the last person she wanted to see.
He walked down the steps with a baseball bat in his hand and a frightened, yet pissed off, look on his face. "What the hell are you doing in my house?!"
Suddenly, Amanda began to believe that teenage boy's story. But it didn't really do her much good. This guy didn't look like he'd believe her if she told him she teleported into his house.
