"But... why?"
"Obviously because they won't appear before a male Avatar..."
"No, I mean why me? Why not some of your other Knights?"
Lancelot shook his head, "It's no good, ever since our female Agents were captured, the Joyriders know we're on their tail. They may have ways to tag our members - even if we change their Avatars, and even if I tweak the system... We can't take that risk. We need someone like you who is new to the game, and we need a male since the device they're using seems to be targeted specifically at the bodies of the female players..."
I stood there silently for a moment. "But if my Avatar were female... And with the full-sense equipment of the game..."
Lancelot nodded. "You'd certainly feel like a woman... but since your body in the real world is male, the device shouldn't have any effect."
I shook my head. "This is crazy... I can't impersonate a woman..."
Again Lancelot reassured me, "Don't worry about those details - we have programs we can run here that can aid you in that department," the large man grinned for a second. "Think the Matrix."
I hesitated, and it must have shown on my face.
"Listen, I know its alot to ask for," Lancelot said, "But there are real flesh and blood women out there being subjected to horrible indignities as we speak, in MY brainchild - a world I made to escape from such corruption 'out there'. And trust me, you WILL be well rewarded..."
I took a deep breath. Lancelot had a point. But still... A woman? A woman who was supposed to go undercover as a potential rape victim?
Still, he deserved an answer. It was time to make a choice...
