Kendall moved towards the door and turned the knob, but the door wouldn't open. This was a bathroom door, so the lock was on the inside. But the door wasn't locked. It just wouldn't open.
He looked around the door, peering through the narrow opening between the door and the frame, and the door and the floor, but he couldn't see anything keeping the door shut.
Kendall kicked the door in frustration. "Damn it! Those witches are craftier than I thought." They must have used some sort of spell on the door. He wouldn't be able to get out until they let him out.
"Did you hear that?" Tim asked, suddenly jumping up from the couch.
"Hear what?" Debra asked.
"I thought I heard a banging sound." He walked towards the sound, but then stopped in his tracks when he heard a cellphone go off.
Mikey reached towards the coffee table. That was where all of Kendall and Morris' stuff was. He grabbed the cellphone that was ringing. "Should I answer it?"
Tim thought for a moment, then said "Yes, but don't talk. Just listen."
Mikey answered it, but didn't say anything. The three of them held their ears close, so they could all hear.
"Kendall, are you there?" It was a man's voice. "Someone's coming to get you. I think he means to kill you. I don't know who he is, but he's coming to your location. He was holding someone hostage, I had to tell him." He paused. "Kendall, are you listening to me?" Suddenly, there was the sound of a gunshot in the background and then silence. The line was still open, but no one was talking.
Debra gasped. "You don't think ... he's dead, do you?"
Mikey ended the call. "What are we gonna do?"
Tim had no idea.
