"Something's going on here," Officer Chase said. She shoved her hands in her pockets. "I just wish I knew what it was."
When Officer Maybourn turned to look at her, he saw a strange look twist her features. "You okay?" he asked.
"I ... I don't know." She looked around, like she was seeing the world for the first time. Then she took her hands out of her pockets. And along with one of her hands came the stone. She looked at it.
"What? What is it?" Maybourn asked.
She continued to look down at the stone a moment longer, then she looked up at her partner. "I know why all of this happening. It's because of this," she said, holding up the stone.
"A stone? Where did you get that?"
"I found it outside the precinct on our way here. I'm not sure why I took it with me. I guess it kind of intrigued me. But I think it was a good idea I picked it up. It's better in my hands than in the hands of the previous owner."
"And who's that?" Maybourn asked.
"Me," a girl suddenly said. They turned and saw a teenage girl that they had seen earlier at the precinct. They remembered her looking very sweet and innocent before. But now, she looked downright pissed.
At the sound of her own voice, Amy (the real Amy, who everyone thought was Vic Rudolph) sat up in her cell. Then she ran to the door and looked out through the very small opening. She saw herself standing in the corridor, facing off the two cops that came to inquire about her.
"That's him!" Amy yelled. "That's Vic Rudolph!"
