"Jon, that's amazing. You get to see him again!" squealed Karyn.
"It is amazing. This reality is so different than the original. I wonder which part of the butterfly effect saved him."
"Maybe you'll find out at dinner. Come on Jon, we have to get to class. We have math together first."
"I'm in honors Math?"
"AP calculus, actually, " replied Karyn on their way to their first period. Jon took a seat next to Karyn and proceeded to space out. The material was all Greek to him. At least his English class and Spanish class didn't change. At lunch, Karyn and Jon were joined by Sarah and the cheerleaders. Sarah talked about how she was looking forward to having them in practice this afternoon. She started talking about some formations and moves, and realized she was losing Jon a bit. She said she would show them later, and waved as she went off with a few of the girls to return her tray. Jon and Karyn stared at eachother for a bit, before one of the other girls that stayed asked if Penny was going to go out with Biff. Jon said he probably wouldn't, so the other girl asked if it was OK if she asked out Biff to homecoming. Jon said he didn't mind, and the other girl hugged him before going off to return her tray.
"So, Biff asked you out, huh Penny? Aren't you the lucky one, " said Karyn jokingly
"Not funny Karyn. As nice as some parts of this reality are, dating Biff isn't one of them. Desiree can have him."
"What if he is a nice guy in this reality? I mean, Sarah was just nice to us. In fact, she was nice to the other girls too. There was not even one mention of the word slut."
"True, but even if he is nice, I'm not going on a date with him. Ew, " replied Jon as the bell rung for next period. Apparently Penny was a real brainiac, because the next class was AP physics followed by AP American History. Just how much did Penny study? He had to find out her password soon otherwise he may destroy her GPA.
After class, Jon and Karyn met up and discussed if they should skip cheerleading. Partway through the discussion of whether or not no-showing would affect anything after they left, they saw Sarah coming down the hall. She walked up to them and was excited to go to the locker room with them. Sarah led them to the door to the girl's locker room and stepped in. Karyn looked at Jon, and went in. Jon stool outside the door for a bit, and Sarah came back out.
"You OK Penny?"
"Just not feeling quite right, " replied Jon
"It's OK Penny, I know what you mean. I think all of us on the team do, but just try your best. It's only a few days, you know? Com'on Penny!" encouraged Sarah pulling Jon into the girl's locker room. Jon had thought about going into the girl's locker room since before high school. It was the talk of some of his guy friends. They heard rumors there were shower curtains, bigger towels and girls helping eachother shower despite having stalls. The reality was underwhelming, just as Karyn said it was. The girls were changing on their own, without massaging eachother and a quick glance in the shower area showed no stalls. Sarah walked up to two lockers, that had labels on them saying Karyn and Penny.
"Now girls, I took my best guess about your sizes. I'm usually pretty good, but if you need another sized top or bottom, just let me or the vice-captain know."
Jon and Karyn opened their lockers to find a bunch of notes inside the door saying things like "welcome to the team!" or "Let's go Sharks!" There was always a signed name and always some kind of smiley face. Seems like they were very welcome additions indeed.
