Jon watched his sister move closer to the glass. "Why did you wait so long to get here?" she asked, then she placed her ear against the glass. She was probably trying to hear what the other person was saying. From his distance, Jon couldn't. He could only hear his sister.
"Sorry, Athena," Zoe said. Jon recognized the name. Athena DeVries was one of Zoe's friends. From what Jon could gather, she was really interested in the occult and was perhaps even a witch (but that might have only been a rumor). "I was just hoping you'd get here before they changed me," Zoe continued. "Isn't there something you could do to help? I really don't want ..."
"Okay, everyone," the lab coat woman said, cutting off Zoe's sentence. His sister abruptly turned away from the window and Athena moved out of view. Perhaps communicating with the "outside world" was prohibited? A few seconds later, Jon saw his parents and brother enter the room. "Let me begin by saying that I'm pleased that you have volunteered for this retreat," the woman continued. "It's going to be an interesting week."
