About ten minutes later, Jon came downstairs and presented himself to his "mother". But upon seeing him, she frowned. "Jon, this isn't good enough. Where's your makeup? And your jewelry? Now, go back up there and do it right. And while you're at it, get some better shoes. The dress is fine, but my daughter would usually wear shoes with at least a 4-inch heel, especially to a dinner event like this."
Jon couldn't believe this.
"Well, go on," Samantha said, shooing him.
Walking back up the stairs, he wondered how he was going to put makeup on, or jewelry, for that matter. Samantha didn't expect him to wear earrings, did she? This entire situation was ludicrous. If only he hadn't said "yes" to Samantha's proposal at the mixer.
