Zoe made her way over to a chair, then sat down. Carrying a baby was a lot of work. She had been doing it for months now, so you'd think that she'd gotten used to it by ...
She paused. She knew she hadn't actually been carrying a baby for months. She used to be Zoe Gibson, a teenage Goth girl. But it felt like she had been pregnant for months.
The more she thought about her old life as a rebellious teen, the more she felt ashamed of it. She must have put her mother through hell, acting like that. Zoe hoped that Abbey wouldn't turn out like that, when she grew up. She rubbed her pregnant belly, smiling as she thought about how lovely it was going to be having a child.
But then she paused again, realizing that this "retreat" wouldn't last long enough for her to have the baby. This experience only lasted a week, which was apparently long enough for someone to see things from a different point-of-view.
Maybe she could make some sort of agreement to stay as Zoe Stevens, after the week was done.
