It was nearly seven by the time Jon finally made it back home. Linda wasn't worried - he hadn't made another wish since so there was nothing to be worried about in her mind. If her son didn't need to make a wish to solve his problems, he probably had it in hand. Looking up from the quick stir fry she was making, she gave him a smile which only grew wider at the blush spreading across Jon's tan cheeks. "Have a good day honey?"
"Yeah," Jon said, not meeting her eyes.
She wanted to ask what he did, but maybe he did enjoy the boy. It was odd that he was with a boy that young, but Jon had to enjoy himself - if not, he would with the new toy in his room. Instead, she focused on her task at hand. "Dinner is almost ready so go ahead, drop your purse up in your room and get your sister and brother."
"Yes mom." Jon scampered off to his room. She watched him go, wondering why he looked even more like her youngest daughter than he did when he left. He was even walking with a little sway to his hips. Not that he noticed of course, but it was there. With a shrug, she turned back to preparing the meal. She didn't need to know everything about her children's lives.
After a few minutes, her children all came down to dinner. Zoe, looking like a goth princess sat down with a scowl on her face. Linda just kissed her daughter's head and placed a plate in front of her as Mikey climbed into his seat. She didn't change too much about either than, though with zoe she did perk up her daughter's body a bit to make it match her own. Mikey still had a bit to grow, but she wondered if he would be happier as a little girl. Jon seemed a little happier.
There was little idle talk as they ate, talking about their days. As much as she normally paid attention to her children's days, she was focused a little more on Jon as he ate. It wasn't with his usual gusto. he took smaller bites, shuffling the food on his plate as Mikey drawled on about some game he was playing on the computer. He probably was a little young for that - she made a mental note to watch out for him - but Jon barely was paying attention. His eyes were off, like he was lost in thought. The only thing that gave him away on what his thoughts were was the obvious blush.
"someone had a good day," Zoe said with a smirk. Apparently ten minutes was about as long as his sister could keep her comments in. "Who was she?" Jon only blushed hard and glared at her. Linda bit her lip to keep from smirking. Zoe didn't know about the date last night, nor about the boy named Kevin - though judging about Jon's wish, that was probably a nonstarter.
"It was okay," Jon said with another shrug despite his blush.
"Did you have fun at least?" Jon blushed a little more at her question, but he nodded. "That's good. Will you be going back?"
"Probably," Jon said, glancing at her then back at his plate. "I mean, Sarah was a more fun to hang out with than I thought" He shrugged his shoulders again. "We just hung out."
"Just hung out? Anyone else there?" Linda wasn't surprised at the reticence: Jon may look like a pre-teen girl at the moment, but he still was acting like a surly teenage boy. It was an odd sight with his somewhat cherubic face. Jon shrugged his shoulders again and took a bit. "Okay, but we'll talk later." Another shrug.
After that dinner was oddly normal. Jon still was blushing, but once he wasn't the focus he seemed more open at least. Linda considered wishing for him to tell her what happened, but figured she'd try being a mom first. It was Zoe's turn to do the dishes so once she started and the food was away, Linda headed up the stairs to Jon's room. She knocked once, a paused.
"Yes?" Jon asked slightly out of breath.
"Can we talk?" Linda said as she stepped into his room. Once inside, she caught Jon jumping back over his bed from the other side, that blush seemingly permanently on his face. "Tell me the truth, honey. How was it?"
"Fine," Jon siad.
"Just fine?" She crossed her arms and waited for him to speak. It had been a long time since she could look down on her eldest like this, but she was enjoying the feeling of being the one in charge again. Jon shuffled in place, glanced behind her then up at her.
"It was...most of its was fine," Jon finally said, sitting back down on the bed. Linda sat next to him and wrapped an arm around him. Almost instinctively, Jon cuddled up beside her, his head resting against her shoulder. "I mean, I had fun with Sarah, and I did swim in the pool." Linda waited again, letting Jon fill the void. "It just ended badly."
"Was it Sarah?" She asked, despite knowing it wasn't. Jon shook his head but didn't say anything. "how about that boy from yesterday? Kevin?"
"Yes - no - I mean yes," Jon said, shaking his head. His blush was back, and he glanced down at his hands. "I just..."
"Jon," Linda turned him so he was looking up at her again, "I'm proud of you for going out there and trying. Its hard to date and you tried it." If he blushed anymore, he would probably pass out. She definitely wanted to ask exactly what he did, but it was something that clearly embarrassed the boy. Oh well, she was starting to enjoy that embarrassment a bit herself. "Did you try it?" She asked as innocently as she could.
"Mom?!?" Jon squealed, his voice squeaking as he tried to pull away to bury his face in his hands. She only tugged him back to her side, giggling as she held him.
"I was young too once," she said. "I know what boys are like. So...how big was he?"
"Big - i mean, Mom," he groaned and this time she let him hide. She patted his back and stood up from the bed.
"Jon, its okay, and even if they don't work out, you had some fun today right?" She asked. Jon nodded into his heads, his tan skin standing out against his blond hair that fell over his face. He looked so cute. "Then that's all that matters. You don't have to see him again if you don't want to, but keep in mind the fun you did have." She kissed his bowed head and left him in his room.
As she left, she wondered if he found his new toy yet.
