"I saw your wife," Michelle said into the cellphone. "She's at a hotel. Do you know what she's doing?"
Suddenly a hand grabbed the phone away from her and cut the connection.
"Hey, I was using that," Michelle snapped at the woman who took her phone.
"No calling allowed," the woman said sternly. She then pointed to a sign on the wall, which displayed a number of rules concerning the retreat. "See? It's number two on the list." The woman put Michelle's phone in her pocket.
"That's mine. You can't take it."
"You'll get it back once everyone has changed." Then the woman turned around and disappeared into the crowd of people. Michelle was usually the one in control, she didn't like other people telling her what she could and couldn't do. Although, deep down, she felt like maybe she wasn't supposed to be in control. It was a remnant of Mikey's personality, one that was submerged beneath layers of ruthlessness, ambition, and dominance.
"Hello?" Richard asked into the phone. "Is anyone there?" But no one was. The line was dead.
He didn't recognize the woman's voice, but the call was very distorted and from the context of the call, he figured it must have been Denise Brewster. She said something about his wife being at a hotel. He started to become angry, as the first thing that popped into his mind was his wife having an affair with some other guy. Susan was a sexy woman and she liked to flaunt it. But he hoped that she would never use it to seduce another man. Apparently, she had.
Denise (or who he thought was Denise) didn't give him the name of the hotel, but at least it was something to go on.
