Eric could feel the ground shake as something stomped towards him crashing through the trees, and he remembered it well from many previous encounters. The wolverine spirit broke into the clearing with it’s teeth bared growling in anger. It towered over him as no real wolverine in real life would and the rumbling growl was like an approaching storm causing the ground to shake.
“Enough of the theatrics,” Eric growled back at it, glad to be a man once again. “What do you want?”
“You have betrayed me, you are betraying the deal your tribe made long ago,” Wolverine raged.
“I didn’t know for sure the potion would work, but I am glad it did work for the sake of my wife and family. No person should have to live under the burden of carrying you within them their entire life. I have served you well for many years, I have brought you more lives than any before me in the time I have carried you within my chest. Is there never enough for the great glutton, must you always be fed!?!”
The powerful barbarian could feel his body suddenly change to the much smaller woman he was changed into by the potion. She frowned as her body jiggled and shook from the laughter of the great beast spirit before her. Her will and strength seemed to be fading from her body with the change causing her to want to cower before the powerful spirit.
“Will your wife want you back as a weak, little, pleasure girl? Perhaps the tribe will sing songs of all the men you have laid with, your strength came from me. At least your form will now fit the weak spirit within your body. You never understood how much strength I gave you so that you might feed me. If you will not feed me I will feed myself and you may not like who I chose.”
She drew strength from the spirit’s threat, “I will see your totem destroy and you forgotten if you harm a hair on any of family!”
“So the mouse squeaks in defiance, fine, I respect strength. I will make you an offer, come and take my spirit back into your body within one cycle of the moon at my cave in the north or I shall abandon your tribe forever. Without the strength I provide, your tribe will fall to one it’s many enemy. They are too small to defend themselves even with their allies. I leave you to make your choice, in the coming times ahead for you I am sure you will discover how weak you are without me. You would not pose a threat to a small barbarian child as you are now, how can you hope to defend all that you love without the strength I provide you?”
The spirit of the wolverine vanished in the flash of a bolt of lighting leaving quiet and calm behind it to make her decision. Eric wondered if the words of the spirit were right, was all of her previous strength given to her by the wolverine?
