A figure came into view of a small group of people who smiled at the sight of Eric. Eric held a hand ax tightly in her hands unsure of there intentions but they didn’t look like they had any hostile intentions there gear was not that of combatants and the weapons they had were more of a design for hunting than combat.
“Hi miss,” a handsome man who looked to be just starting adulthood spoke. “I hope that we didn’t scare you. We got lost from our hunting party and we saw your fire. Do you know where we are?”
Eric stared into his dark eyes before speaking, “You are within about ten miles of the village of the Wolverine tribe. If you travel north along the road for twenty miles you will reach the outpost of the King.”
The small group looked at each other grimly and Eric suspected they were much further off course than they expected. The civilized men had likely lost their riding animals and were debating about what to do about the long walk ahead of them. They would likely want to go the outpost but it was much further and the men were dressed for a day trip, not long travel in cold and windy land.
“My name is Prince Alex and these are my companions Baron Wilcox, Earl Bucks, and Viscount Vincent,” Prince Alex introduced himself. “Can we take part in your fire for the night?”
Eric smiled at them asking because they had to realize she had no means to prevent them from taking anything they wanted from her. The polite tone she heard was rare from nobles to the barbarians of the northern lands but she didn’t look very much like they would expect one of the “savages” of the north to look. As long as they continued to treat her with respect she would do the same.
