As Karyn browsed through the booklet, she heard voices and looked up momentarily. The first thought that entered her mind was that the boy she saw was Jon. But who was Jon? She didn't know why she would have recognized that boy anyway. He was a Goth and she wasn't really familiar with that crowd. In fact, the only Goth she really knew was Joanne's sister Zoe.
Ron walked out into the main lobby with Sabrina and that was when he spotted Karyn.
"Hey, it's Karyn," he said to Sabrina. What was she doing here?
"Who?"
"Karyn. She's my friend," Ron said.
Sabrina leaned in. "I'm your friend."
"Well, yeah, but ..." Ron looked back at Karyn and made eye contact with her, but then Karyn turned away, as if she hadn't recognized him. At first, he thought that maybe it was his new getup, but he and Karyn had grown up together. She would have recognized him, even with this Goth look.
"Come on, Ron. Let's get the fuck outta here," Sabrina said, pulling him with her towards the exit.
Joanne looked around, suddenly realizing that Ron and Sabrina weren't there! "Damn it," she swore. How was she going to get Karyn to swap with her former friend if Sabrina wasn't there?
Zoe groaned and rolled her eyes. "What is it now?"
