Jon (now Jana) knew that wishes couldn't be reversed. She had wished that the kidnappers had kidnapped the person they meant to kidnap. That was the McMillan daughter. If Jana had just used the stone to escape, she wouldn't be able to change back to a guy because that would reverse the wish about kidnapping the person they meant to kidnap.

Which meant that Jana would have to make that wish come true in another way. The simplest way was just to say that Sarah was kidnapped. That would still count as kidnapping the one they meant to kidnap, and that way Jana could change back to Jon without reversing anything. At least unless changing back to Jon would make it uninteresting....

Jon wasn't in the same social circles as Sarah, and made snide remarks about her, but she didn't think Sarah really deserved to be kidnapped. But maybe there was a way... "I wish that Sarah is the one who was kidnapped, and I am helping rescue her from the kidnappers safely."

The lights seemed to flicker, but of course they really hadn't. The air smelled clearer tan in the warehouse but with a bit of auto fumes in it. Jana was outside the warehouse in the company of five police officers.

"So this is the warehouse you followed your sister to," asked an older male officer.

"Yeah," she said. "Sarah had to be taken here."

"If only we knew where she was inside the warehouse. We assume someone is guarding her and it would be hard to surprise the guards without endangering her. Do you think you can sneak in?"

"Hm?" replied Jana. "I don't have ninja skills."

"I know you don't like to call them that. You said your great grandfather learned them in Japan after World War II and passed them down, right?"

"I... oh, right. I guess he did."

Jana ran at the warehouse's wall, tried to run up it, and got her heel caught between two bricks. She fell to the ground. "I wish I knew what ninja skills I was supposed to have."

Nothing Naruto-level, it seemed. Just climbing and sneaking, a bit of fitness training but no more than Sarah got from cheerleading, and some weapon accuracy. It might be interesting wishing up something Naruto level, but Jana had her fill of "interesting" at this point. She moved around the building until she could get a glimpse of a dimly lit room through a window. There was nobody inside and the room seemed lit only because of the light filtering through the crack under the door. The window wasn't locked; Jana slowly opened it to avoid noise, teared aside the insect screen and soon she was inside.

At that point, she whispered a wish to the stone to tell her exactly where Sarah and the guards were. The man with the gun was gone; it was easy to wait just around the corner and wish for a distraction. The police siren suddenly blared out and she ran up and shoved a cardboard box over the guard's head, then hit him, hard. He went down, unconscious. Dead? He might have a concussion, at least.

Jana's phone rang as she frantically searched the guard for keys and scrambled to enter the room. A grateful Sarah gave her a sisterly hug. Jana leaned against the door and answered the phone. "Is she okay?" asked one of the officers.

"We're fine," said Jana. "We're in a room, the guard is down, and I think you can do what you need to do now." The police began announcing offers of surrender on loudspeakers. "We know you don't have control of your hostages...."

"I can't believe you did that," said Sarah. "That's the best fitness training, Jana."

"It was nothing," she said. "You're safe now, and we're going home. It's all back to normal." Of course, while Sarah was okay and they were all safe, "home" at Sarah's house would be a new experience for Jana McMillan, once Jon....
