Around this time, Jon called Karyn to warn her about his vague wish. He had already tried to make a wish to find out what his wish did, but for some reason the stone wouldn't grant it. It seemed that whatever the stone did, he'd have no choice but to watch it play out.
"I'd rather talk to you about this in person, Karyn," Jon said over the phone. "But I know you have to get ready for your study session with Gladys."
"What study session? And who's Gladys?"
Jon paused. The first question could be overlooked. Hey, maybe Jon got the days mixed up. But 'who was Gladys'? What did she mean by that? How many Gladyses did they know, after all?
"Gladys Brewer," Jon said, clarifying, and wondering why he needed to.
"That dyke? Why would I be having a study session with her?" she asked.
Okay, now it was getting strange. Gladys wasn't a lesbian. Well, he didn't think she was. She never had a boyfriend, but he was pretty sure she was straight.
"Why do you think she's gay?" he asked.
"Jon, everyone knows she's gay. Her and girlfriend Lauren."
"Lauren O'Brien?"
"Yeah, that's her."
Jon paused, for a lot longer this time. Lauren O'Brien was definitely not a lesbian. Every couple of weeks she was seen with another guy. What the hell was going on? Could this have something to do with his vague wish? What exactly was his wish doing? Turning people into lesbians? Oh, he wished the stone would just tell him and he could stop playing this guessing game.
