After the first class of the day, Jon saw Sarah walk up to him. Sure, Sarah was attractive, but anything Sarah could have wanted to say or do to Jon was probably bad. He quickly left and ducked into a room but Sarah apparently noticed. Soon the door opened.
Sarah shouted "Jon... what are you doing?"
"Er, nothing," replied Jon.
"I just want to know what's up. You've been acting really weird for a while. You got something in the mail the other day right after Grandpa died and never talked about it."
"What? Grandpa?" Something was funny. She had the right long blonde hair... but he was pretty sure Sarah was not related to him. And the girl's pants were a department store brand. Sarah was unlikely to wear that, or at least, she would do her best to not make it obvious. "You're not Sarah. Who are you?"
"Your sister. Kimberly. You know, born a week after you?"
"It's impossible to be born a week apart. And you look just like Sarah."
"Of course I look just like her. Right after you were born and just before she was born, Mom caught pregnancy from her mom. Who else would I look like? Now what happened to you that's so bad that you go around running into storerooms?"
Jon sighed. "Nothing. And how does anyone catch pregnancy? It's not a disease, and if you could catch it anyway, you'd see ten or twenty people get pregnant at the same time."
"Uhh," replied Kimberly as if it was the most normal thing in the world. "You catch it the usual way. Sneezing, mostly."
"But pregnancy doesn't make people sneeze," said Jon.
Kimberly explained, as if talking to someone who didn't know that the sun rises in the east and triangles have three sides, "That's why you don't see ten or twenty people catch it at once. If someone's pregnant and they sneeze, you can catch it, but the pregnancy doesn't make them sneeze, so catching it is rare."
"Wait a minute," said Jon. "So if you give sneezing powder to someone who's pregnant you can make people catch it? Or if someone's pregnant and they also have allergies?"
"Who would be pregnant, have allergies, and not cover their mouth when they sneeze? Otherwise you need to catch it from an unwashed glass or dirty hands or something."
"I see," said Jon. "I think my wish did this... Let me guess, guys can catch it too?"
"Of course. But they transform. At least enough of them transforms that they can have a baby, sometimes they become a girl completely. Like Jimmy Gordy five years ago. He caught pregnancy on purpose just so he could become a girl."
"Did he transform all the way?"
"Jon, you're definitely acting weird. Like you never heard of catching pregnancy."
"Sorry, Kimberly."
"Kimberly?
"Let me guess again. I should call you Kim."
"Jon, you're scaring me."
Jon put his hand in his pocket, felt the touch of the stone, and said "I wish Kim would walk away, forget this conversation, and not think there's anything strange about me."
A look of confusion came over Kimberly's face and she did an about-face and headed for the door. Jon followed. He supposed it counted as interesting, though. Should he explain it to Karyn? She must think that catching pregnancy is normal too.
