Without warning, Brandon felt compelled to perform a song for both his mother and the shopkeeper, who were standing nearby. Microphone still grasped in his hand, Brandon tugged on his mother's sleeve, eager to get her attention.
"Hey Mom, watch this!"
Brandon began to belt out an instantly familiar song into the microphone, dancing along to the words with perfect rhythm. Mary was stunned by her son's abilities as a performer, considering that there had been no indication of them being present beforehand.
Unbeknownst to either Brandon or Mary, the boy's legs lengthened slightly, a fraction of their eventual measurement.
Brandon finished his impromptu performance for his two-person audience. Mary was stunned, but her face was illuminated by a beaming smile, proud of her son. Both her and the shopkeeper applauded.
"You should consider a career in showbusiness, child." the shopkeeper suggested.
Mary simply nodded thoughtfully.
