"So tell me a bit about yourself," Jonchelle asked Vanessa as she was led to her first stop.
"Well, I go to Lake Point High, gonna be doing dance classes…"
"That sounds fun! I think I'll join you in that."
"Oh we go to the same school, perfect!" she beamed. "Figured I got the body now, why not use it?"
"Well, you are so pretty now… Gonna have to get used to seeing all the girls as boys."
"School on Monday is gonna be soooo different." Even though her voice was a little deep, Vanessa had the tone and inflection down pat.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd never have guessed this wasn't your normal look."
Vanessa stopped in her tracks and looked at Jonchelle.
“What?”
“I’m going to be honest with you. I’ve had practice.”
“What do you mean?”
Vanessa shifted as she tried to work out how to say exactly what she wanted. “This, uh... This isn’t the first time that I’ve dressed up as a girl,” she admitted.
“Oh.”
“It feels a bit weird seeing a bunch of people I know do the same thing, but… As a trans girl who’s starting to find myself…” she trailed off, leaving Jonchelle to ponder about her new friend.
She didn’t have long though, as they were soon at their first stop, Victoria’s Secret. Normally a haven for girls, Jonchelle would never have imagined herself coming here, but now, it seemed necessary. As Jonchelle stared at the store, overflowing with customers, she felt a tug on her arm.
“Come on, girl, essentials first.”
